Waving from Mid-atlantic!

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I just had time before my morning bridge class to pop into the forum and wave hello. The sea is calm and flat although the sky is rather grey today but it's less windy than yesterday.

Unbelievably we have bagged ourselves an officers table! We are on with the cheif engineer, who was involved since the ship was being built and is a lovely chap. Bored them all silly about chickens of course. Trouble is that means free vino on the nights he dines and one of them was last night so I have a little headache today. TBH I would have had a headache anyway as I managed to leave my little device behind that I wear at night to stop me grinding my teeth so I wake up with my jaw all clenched.

I have heard from the petsitter and the cats and chooks are all doing well, I also had an email today from Kirsty at Hens 4 Homes to say that the Heritage Skylines are ready - so new girls when I get back :lol:

Busy day today, we are taking James up to the kennels to meet a dog, we met a lovely girl last night at the cocktail party, she grew up on the upper west side and has been doing graduate training at Christies for the last year and living in Fulham and is now returning home with her dog on QM2, so she invited us up to say hello to her furry friend. She was carrying the most divine Prada handbag last night too so we suspect she is not exactly a pauper! Later I'm going to a Choir session, just go along and join in. Better run upstairs to Bridge now!

We booked this one earlier this year but we've already got one booked for next August - we've booked a med cruise on the Ventura.

Actually when we left Southampton both the Ventura and the Queen Victoria were also in port but we left first and they were berthed behind us so we didn't get a close look.

On a boat this size, with only 8 empty cabins you rarely feel crowded. This morning there was a crowd outside a shop but other than that there is always plenty of room, seats to go round etc.

This is an odd trip as (again!) we've managed to land ourselves on a boat full of Germans! Last year when I sailed over the boat was going on to Hamburg, this time she came to Southampton from Hamburg. They are nice enough people but yesterday, when there were only 5 people in the indoor pool and 3 in the hot tubs EVERY sun lounger was taken with a towel and a book - all books were in German. We got one of the staff to clear some for us as we wanted to spend an hour in there, it was lunchtime and in that hour not ONE person came back to their lounger!!!

Being on an officers table is rather cool though, we are learning loads about the ship and getting free wine too. Tonight is another captains cocktail party, this one is for the higher level world club members so will be a little more exclusive than the last one.

I've played my first game of competititve bridge this afternoon too, Henk (dutch) and I lost to his partner (desiree) and a lovely Texan woman whose husband knows GW Bush!

In a minute I'm off to take James to an outdoor pool - its really a bit chilly for it but he wants to go.
