Saint Cyril
Hi, I've got two chickens and one of them has taken to flying over the 5 foot chicken wire fence despite having her wing clipped as far back as I dare. Aside from the obvious and raising the height of the fence, does anyone have any other suggestions for keeping them in the run ?????? Egluntyne
Welcome to the forum St Cyril. Another Yorkshire member. Maybe if you clip her other wing she wont get the "lift".
Saint Cyril
Hi, thanks for that advice. I think I'll give it a try but am worried if I balance her up again on take off with both wings she will be flying more than ever !! Lets hope your theory on amount of lift she gets from take off kicks in and she can't get as high eh.......
Stevie
I guess she hasnt come into lay yet? They get heavier when that happens and then spend more time scratching about rather than escaping!
Saint Cyril
Oh no Stevie, she's been 'in-lay' for a few months now !!

Abbey Road Girl
How about a sort of unstable worrying baffle? Having eaten all the weeds in the garden, my hens are now perching on the back of the garden bench to snaffle all the Virginia Creeper they can reach. Much lower and to the right are some feathery cosmos which they should go for big time, except that I've placed some plastic over the back of the bench, the very place where they would approach it. Should they be tempted to hop on that, they will probably find it worryingly unstable and find something else to go after. They are bold but do exercise caution. jools+6
our nugget was a mountain climber in her last life . two wings clipped and she still gets up high . we just have to keep an eye on her and she has a habit of giving the other girls lessons ... luckily it's only daft dipper that pays any attention now and she's too daft and unco-ordinated to manage it
