Mrs. Tweedy
Help! I'm new to chickens and got my eglu over a month ago. Two of my chickens are now laying regular as clock work but one (Mrs Pepperpot - Aggie) is not laying. She laid one about three weeks ago and now nothing. She has a huge comb and waddle now but seems a little on the thin side. Any ideas?
BeckyBoo
You could always try worming her, anything where they're off colour can put them off laying. It may be that she's a little younger than the others, hopefully she should become more regular soon Mrs B
Mrs. Tweedy
Yes I thought maybe worming would do the trick but I thought eglu would have wormed them before I got them? Can you over worm chickens?
Hen Watch
She may be younger than the others by a few weeks and will get going soon. My Pepperpot is a much skinnier bird than the Gingernuts or the Amber Star. She's always been like that and her comb and wattles are a different colour red and much larger than the other 2 breeds. Mrs. Tweedy
Thanks for the info! p.s I'm going to start weighing my eggs too! I've already got the egg count going. So far I've had 54 eggs. I've worked out that when we've had 1181 eggs the eglu will be paid for! Poor things! My expectations are high! Do Gingernuts normally lay little eggs or will they get bigger? They're quite cute at the minute but my husbands always wants two! Thanks a lot
Chickvic
Hello Mrs Tweedy! Yes the eggs start off quite small and then grow, Opal has been laying for about 3 months and started off at 35g - 45g. Now the are regularly 60g+ and occasionally extra large, 99g and 95g My is the big girl, she is much larger and 'bulkier' than the 2 .
