Sick chicken

Recommended Posts

i just came back from holiday and my chicken was standing refusing to move wouldn't eat wouldn't drink and appeared to keep trying to lay an egg. We tried steaming her and she perked up and went back into the garden. Later we found an egg with no shell and she was a bit uphappy but was alot better. This morning we had the same thing as yesturday morning with refusing to eat etc and we tryed steaming again but this hasn't worked she pick up a bit but not as much as yesturday at the moment i have her penned away from the others but still in the garden

Does anybody have any suggestions? thanks

sorry edited because i didn't explain well

Hello Woodcat

I will move this to the chicken clinic, where more people can help/offer advice.

Laying a soft shelled egg is nothing to worry about, if it is once or twice.

Make sure they all have good quality layers mash/pellets and access to oyster shell or limestone flour to give them the extra calcium they need for strong shells.

laying a softie does take it out of them, as there is nothing to push against to expel the egg.

I'm sure she will be fine.
