Electricbarbarella
Twinkle laid her first egg this morning and rather than the usual excitement I felt ever so slightly disappointed as it is brown. do they develop their colour over time, or does what they eat make any difference. I am still proud though.
xChicken04x
That's weird . Are you sure she's a white star? xx
Electricbarbarella
I was told she was, and she is pure white, I also have an amber star and she is a lot more creamy looking.
xChicken04x
How odd. White stars are definitely supposed to lay white eggs . I'll try and find a picture of my white star for comparison... xx

Electricbarbarella
i think she is whiter than yours, she is actually pure white (except for a bit of muck) yours looks more like fizz who is my amber star (I think) maybe I have just got them muddled up. Phosphorus
A white star will lay a white egg from day one Sounds like she could be a Bovans Silver or a coral. I had that from my breeder - bought what I thought was a white star and then on getting her home was totally convinced that she wasn't We ended up with an extra hen as didn't have the heart to take the imposter back This is Alice, old photo but : http://club.omlet.co.uk/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=27708 This was the imposter: http://club.omlet.co.uk/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=27605 If she is a white star she will have white ear lobes - sounds like another hybrid if she is laying brown eggs
Electricbarbarella
not letting me look at those links. Never mind, brown eggs all round then, they still taste as good and I have my first customer lined up.

jomaxsmith
This is my Coral - White Stars have different tails - flatter and wider, I think. http://www.new.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=485093&l=ffcf7&id=663092293 Her eggs are very pale pink, def not brown. Electricbarbarella
i would say she looks more like the coral tbh. she is a smaller bird than my others and very dainty looking if that makes sense. I am now wondering if she didn't lay it atall. It was exactley the same colour as the black rock and the light sussex eggs.
Electricbarbarella
would a light sussexc lay slightly speckeldy brown eggs, starting to think it must have been dotty egg as she has not laid today, maybe jus6t a mix up.
Phosphorus
I think cream normally but not sure. Having said that - my speckeldy should lay speckled dark brown and my Maran cuivre dark brown eggs - they seem to have had words and swapped as they both lay the other way round
Sandychick
yours looks more like fizz who is my amber star (I think) maybe I have just got them muddled up. She looks like my Amber Star too . But just to add to the confusion, Willow my Amber Star lays white eggs! Maybe I have an imposter too!!

Have you noticed if you get to it as soon as it's laid, the speckles can be smudged - they don't set until it's out! Apparently this is a Maran thing! Electricbarbarella
well I think it must have belonged to dotty as she hasn't laid. so could still get a white one, also possible to get white egg from the amber star. It really is a lottery isn't it.
Electricbarbarella
this mornings update, the egg was definatley the white stars, so i guess she isn't a white star. dotty the light sussex laid a cream egg this morning and stripey laid her usual bron one. it is noce looking at the diffeerences between them all. Ana's flock
Have a look at the bits just underneath the ears, they are generally a good indicator of the egg colour, if they are white she'll be a white egg layer. I've got a white star and she's always laid white eggs, my other white hen, a Mendelson, lays pale creamy eggs. Good luck!
Electricbarbarella
a few people have said that but I must confess I don't really know what you mean, all their ears are red. I found a softy today that had a pure white shell, I have no idea who that came from as I have had my normal 3. I give up.
Yolky
My pepperpot when she first layed she did 2 pure white softies, she now lays brown eggies. Coloured eggs wouid be fun but they all taste gorgeous I bet it won't be too long till your first full house EB
Electricbarbarella
I know i had my first sale yesterday, 25p per egg seems very cheap considering what the clever chooks have done.
Yolky
Oh nice one on your first sale. You will have a roaring trade going once people have tasted the eggs
