likeastar--x
I have mistaken sunbathing for crouching in the past, so I hope im right now. For a little while if I came up behind Saffron and touched her back she stuck her bum in the air and her wings were slightly out to the sides, away from her body. Today shes been really noisy and then she went up to the house and stayed in there by herself, which is very unlike her. She was noisy for a bit but now shes gone quiet. Is she laying her first egg? How long will it take? Edited August 23, 2008 by Guest
Egluntyne
Sounds as if she might be. Impossible to say how long it will take as they are all different.
likeastar--x
She was crouching and when I next went in there she had layed an egg! It was a lovely cream one with brown specks but then my sister made the mistake of washing it under the tap so now we cant eat it! But ive decided to blow it and keep the shell Im so proud of my baby!
cluckbok
You could eat it, as long as you do straight away. Or could have hard boiled it for egg mayo sarnies the next day!

E4eggs
Sorry to sound so thick, but why can you not eat an egg that has been washed under the tap?
Ain't Nobody Here
Not thick at all, just one of those things you pick up on the forum . Apparently, there's a kind of barrier on the eggs which keeps germs out. If you wash them, you remove the barrier and potentially allow germs in. A gentle wipe with a damp cloth is OK though.
