Laura&Sean
I have had 4 eggs a day for the last week from my girls they are the best! Really worried today as 2 have not laid, this doesn't mean retained eggs or anything does it? I don't know anything about being "egg bound" could it be that or is this normal? They seem well in themselves but I can't help being scared, normally I have all my eggs by 11am. Feel free to tell me off if I am over-reacting I already feel stupid even posting this. Egluntyne
Don't feel embarrassed. They often take a day off now and then. Unless they are showing other symptoms, I shouldn't worry.
Laura&Sean
Ahhhhh thank-you Eglutine I keep going out and checking on my girls and they seem happy as ever so what you have said is a relief, I naively did not know they had days off under a year old how stupid of me, god I am an idiot! How else would they lay 320 average- if they laid everyday as there are 365 days in a year, I am so blonde and dumb and so embarrassed........can I delete this topic Sorry everyone! cluckbok
yeah don't worry Laura&Sean, our Rosie is having a day off today! It's hard work laying all those eggs so a day off won't hurt!
jomaxsmith
My girls seem to be having the occasional day off lately - maybe it's the shortening days. I've been out all day today visiting my mum (and took her 6 eggs) and got home to moody kids and husband so devised an easy tea involving eggs - choice of goggy egg (boiled) or omelette. Cue me opening fridge to find and are having a day off so all had was 2 x eggs! It was a rather sp"Ooops, word censored!" meal! Jo
Laura&Sean
Thanks everyone I really appreciate you not making me feel even more of a fool than I did already. One girl Petal has since laid right in the middle of the lawn how unusual ! My other girl Lolo is actually quite down now, much quieter than normal and didnt come running for grapes, she has put herself back in the eglu run and is perched on a bar I have put inside across it. I will go and check on her again soon, I would be devastated if something went wrong, I know they are "only" chickens but I love them very much and they bring me such joy and happiness. Lolo is also my favourite. Please cross your fingers she is just sulking because she hasn't laid.
RubyReckless
Don't worry, it's a learning curve for all of us. i have one hen with more "off" than "on" days, one reliable trouper and one who is erratic. And I've got a favourite too!
