dancing cloud
Cynic here says accept this job if you want it and, if your current place of work offer you the job you really wanted as well, then pick between them and don't be afraid of turning offers down. I know it sounds like a mean and hard thing to do , but put yourself first. The rejected party will get over it and you will get the job you're going to be happiest with ! Many congrats on getting this job and all the very best with whatever you decide.
redfrock
thanks everybody I have spent the afternoon having a stroll along the seafront, having taken hubby to a lovely little cafe I know for lunch (we are enjoying a much needed long weekend together). I'm sure I have been walking along with a furrowed brow! I think I have made a decision, and that is to take the new job. I sat and thought about how excited I was when I applied for the job, and looked at what it was that was holding me back from jumping at it with both hands, and to be honest it is only the wage cut. I then thought about what was keeping me at my current job - and it was my friends and colleagues rather than the job itself. My friends will stay in touch. Money is a worry, and it is gutting to be tipping back to a wage that I was on 5 years ago (particularly as even my current job isn't well paid and we have since doubled our mortgage). It also means that getting my dog will have to go on indefinite hold which is heart-wrenching, but the demands of the new job will simply not be fair on her. My current job will definitely be relocating to Maidstone, and I have considered bartering with them and suggesting that they allow me to work from home 2 days a week due to the relocation. That would allow me to have the dog and keep the salary, but realistically I think I am tired of social housing and the abuse I am routinely subjected to. I think I will still ask about the working from home though, just so that I know the answer. I have about 2 or 3 weeks in which to make a definite decision, as they want my references before I am allowed to give my notice in, and they say that is how long to expect it to all take. So it will be 6 or 7 weeks until I start the new job anyway. How many times do you reckon I will change my mind during it???
Clur
I was in a similar position a few months back Redfrock - took a paycut and lost all sorts of perks and benefits to go to another job. The job I am doing now is more where I wanted to be, and though money is tight, I am much happier. Bet your current company makes a counter-offer, then you'll be see-sawing between the two (happened to me!), but my advice is stick with your gut. All the best
