BeckyBoo
Well yesterday I cleared one of the veggie patches and had the potatoes out of the tyres so thought I'd dump all the spent compost from the tyres on the veggie patch. It was FULL of worms so I relented and let the big girls out to have a scratch around (they're normally only allowed to free range at the bottom of the garden) Then I thought, well, loads to keep them busy, might as well let the chicks out too! (they're just over 11 weeks). So opened the door and.......................they wouldn't come out Eventually after the children collected buckets of worms and tipped them by the front door they ventured out. There was a fair bit of pecking and of course the two confirmed cockerels, Bil and Fred, were pretty feisty But we decided once they all went back in that we would leave the run door on the Eglu open, so basically they are all free to mingle in the big walk in run but the chicks still have their own bed at night. So that's it, they are now all together in a seperate kind of way. The chicks have taken to the higher branches on the run , they haven't had their wings clipped yet and of course as they don't weigh much they can fly pretty well! Will try and get some pictures of them, they look so cute! Mrs Bertie
Egluntyne
Well done. My Three H's, who are now at POL are mingling with the big girls in a together but separate kind of way, and apart from a bit of nastiness from one of the ex-batts, all is going well. They still sleep separately. I have developed a little theory. * Clears throat* It seems to me that the bigger the flock, the easier the intros. It is as if there are so many of them that they don't notice an interloper particularly.
