Hockeyaholic
One of my bunnies in particular, Tallulah , loves digging. They're on the concrete cause Delilah gets poorly being on the grass too much (they do still get to go on the grass from time to time). Anyway because Tallulah can't dig up concrete shes started kicking all her bedding out so I was going to put a cat litter tray in the run full of sand, soil or wood shavings so she can dig away - but I wasn't sure what would be the best filling (as it were). I wanted to put sand in it but was worried it would get in there eyes/nose etc - any thoughts?? has anyone else tried this?
bethany
I put wood chips in and my rabbits seem to like to dig them and they're big enough not to cause too much dust to get in their lungs or eyes.
SnowWhite
I have this digging problem from time to time, usually when Bernard gets bored I've had to keep my buns on concrete too due to repeated GI statsis in one that couldn't have too much grass. I found that whilst it solved both the digging and digestive problems, there were other issues like sore hocks to deal with. Digging is very natural behaviour for a rabbit, they just love to burrow. I think the woodchip idea is great because it'll be kind on their feet too. Why not try putting a cardboard box in (and don't be surprised if they eat it) and one of these play tubes (tent like material so all weather) so that they can play house or warren as it were? I hope this helps!
