I *heart* my Sat Nav

Recommended Posts

I normally love mine but today.

First I was driving down the A2 towards the M2, through Roadworks but not changed to opposite cariageway or anything. Silly Sally Satnave showed me driving ALONGSIDE the road and kept saying "drive to nearest road".

THEN

She told me it was a mile to my exit - AS I PASSED IT!!!

Made us later for Diggerland - already a nightmare journey as the M25 was shut in Essex!!!!!

I mainly love my Tom Tom although I do have a bit of a problem where it sometimes says bear Left when it means turn left!

I had that too Penguinmad, I was going to a farm in Longfield and was going to take the Bluewater turn off and go that way and let the Tom Tom pick up the route but no, I stupidly followed it's instructions  at that bit you're talking about on the A2 mine shows that I'm driving through fields! Anyway the upshot was that had I gone with my first instinct I would have got to the farm in a quarter of the time  Perhaps I should put my hand in my pocket and pay for an update

Not sure the update would be worth it - I have a NavMan so if you have Tom Tom then we have 2 brands, both wrong so the update might not show that bit still!

I love our Tom Tom. It is so relaxing to know that you can just concentrate on the road without worrying. I always have a map as well just in case but its a great device. Our eldest daughter has one now she drives distances and we will get one for our youngest soon as it gives them more confidence. We have had a few laughs - its the icy tone in the voice when you go another way from the recommended one "Turn around when possible!!" :D:D

Never wanted a Satnav, and don't think (despite loving my gadgets) I'll ever get one for two main reasons.

Firstly I can read a map. And if I'm on my own I can read the map beforehand to get the bearings, and if I run out of memory I generally stop and check the map again. It served us pretty well taking part in a navigational rally around the north of Italy (as well as the drive there from Edinburgh, and the drive back (via Brighton)). I rode 50 miles or so in London a couple of months back using the method as well, going from our hotel to friends in Rotherhithe and various spots in the city centre.

Secondly, there's so much fun to be had of a weekend in just getting in the car, or on the bike, and heading for destination unknown, getting more and more lost then simply finding the nearest town or village on the map to get the bearings for heading home again.
