Janepie33
One of my girls, Biscuit, was broody for about 7 weeks, but snapped out of it when we finally resorted to a broody cage. She used to be number 2 (out of 5) in the pecking order but has now been demoted to number 5. The others peck her and block her way when she tries to reach the treats and she is always last out of the run in the mad scrum to get out in the morning. Poor girl is a bit lacking in the feather department, due to a fox attack earlier in the year, feather plucking when she was broody and now the others deciding to remove a few more. She appears happy and is gradually gaining the weight she lost when broody and just today, has started squatting again. My questions are - is this normal pecking order behaviour and will she always be bottom chicken? Any advice greatly appreciated.
Egluntyne
It is normal behaviour, and when she comes back into lay properly, she may well be promoted again.
