Laura&Sean
I think Dolly is top but only because she squauks a lot, raises her hackles the very occasional times I mnage to pick her up and sleeps in the nesting box she is also the least friendly and gives me an evil look if I so much as go towards her! Is that what being top hen is about or is there more to it, other than those things they all do exactly the same thing at the same time, no order of importance that I can see. Just interested in what yours do as top chick?
chucknette
Hi My top chook keeps the rest of the flock in order for me. She sorts out any squabbles, calls them all to her if she thinks there might be some sort of danger and is always first to eat. She is the first one up the cube ladder at night and the first one down in the morning, so that they all follow her. She also jumps onto their backs ocassionally just as a cockrel would to enforce her dominance. I would be lost without her Best wishes
dancing cloud
Top chook Daisy is the one that gives the others the evil look and they all back off and let her have whatever it was they wanted. She is first out of the cube in the morning and she turfs anyone else out of the nestbox when she wants it - no sharing for Daisy! If they get out of line she will give the others a peck, but she is so dominant a look is usually all it takes Having said that, she regards me as mummy-hen and comes for a quick cuddle before bedtime - aaww
