I was wondering if it would be bad for my chickens if i was to put some grass seed down? Would they eat it and if they did would it be bad for them?

I had put grass seed down and don't think the chickens took much interest in it. The problem was they ate all the new grass shoots so I may as well not have bothered to begin with!

We put grass seed down, it was blue seed, apparently it doesn't appeal to them very much. We didn't notice ours eating it.

Almost all grass seed has bird repellent in it these days so it doesn't get eaten. I assume it works the same on chickens! Might be an idea to put some netting over it, as the chickens will think the prepared soil is great fun for digging about in - I have squirrels here too which are even more destructive than chickens
