Wolleysheep
I have been reading and getting very confused with which wormer to use as there are so many. I don't mind which one it is as long as I can get the dosage right and that it works. Some background information I have two chooks, both 16 weeks old ( first ever chooks) Only had them for 1 week Both are eating layers mash and drinking well however one has orange runny poo ( but not all the time) This is what prompted me to look at worming. If anyone can help me to which wormer to use (if it is possible at this age) and what doses it would be. Thank you
abwsco
I wouldn't have thought they had worms as their poos can be funny when you first get them plus every 10 or so poos is orangey or a "curry" one. The proper name is a caecal poo. As for worming I'd contact where you got them from first to see if they have been done as over worming isn't recommended. Some people use Verm-X as a preventative but Flubenvet is your best bet if they already have worms. The usual treatment is twice a year. Hope that helps
sandyhas3chucks
I am sure someone will come along soon, but fluvivet seems to be the one that comes up most. hang on though the experts will pop in.
Sandychick
I used Verm-x to start with and I found it to be ineffective - they still got worms. Flubenvet is very good and the one that most people on here will recommend. They might not need worming yet but it is a good idea to think about getting some Flubenvet as you might need to order it online and it is no fun waiting for it if you find they do have worms. I think every 6 months is recommended. I'm not sure what the minimum age is to worm them but I'm sure someone on here will. Enjoy your new chickens
Egluntyne
I'd use Flubenvet, a good general wormer. Verm-X was useless I found.
Hen Watch
Hi. I would think that the poos you are getting are just due to the chooks settling in. It took my lot a good 2 weeks before their squits dissappeared, then they were fine. Remeber, its all new to them, the journey, new home, maybe new brand of food, grass for the first time etc. I worm my lot routinely every 4 months with Flubenvet. Dose for chickens is 1g per chicken (given over 7 days). For my 4 birds 4g is 1 level teaspoon. So you will need half a level teaspoon for 2 chickens. Wolleysheep
Thank you for all of you advice so far, I always like to use tried and tested products especially as there seams to be so many on the market. The poo scenario has now been put at ease, thank you abwsco and Hen Watch. I have been paranoid about "poo" ever since I read an article about yellow foamy poo and that which has blood in and feared the worst. It has taken me 11 years to persuade the family to have chickens and now they are here I couldn't bear for them to fall ill. They are better then I ever envisaged and are the best time waster as I find myself just sat, watching which moth will dare to enter the eglu next!
