clueless chick
Does anyone know how long it will be before Rusty starts to lay. She is the bottom of the pecking order but they calmed down ages ago. She feeds well and climbs the logs etc, follows me around when they are out of the run and free ranging . Both other chicks are laying well. A neighbour told me that she should be laying as is as red in the face as the others although her comb is small??? She is a bit of a loner and also the only one that will not be picked up ( she has a great side step probably learnt when getting out of the others way). Maybe she is in training for England football team Has anyone any ideas
Egluntyne
Sounds as if she is a bit younger than the others. It will happen.....eventually. Try not to feed her too many treats. Is she being chased away from the feeding bowl by the others? The comb and wattles are a better indicator than the redness of the face. When they develpo and she starts to crouch, you will know that na egg is imminent.
clueless chick
She is eating well. They only pick on her when there is a few treats. If I leave a long container that they all can get their heads into she hustles her way in. They all seem okay but as I said the only one not to be picked up as yet is her. If I sit on the bench in their part of the garden she will perch next to me but then jumps up behind so she is out of reach and while in the garden will follow me but again just out of reach. The others crouch as per expecting the rooster when I give them a stroke. I am sure she will lay and be more trusting some day
