mostin
My boss girl Priscilla keeps picking up bits of straw and leaves and putting them in the small of her back and carrying them round. She looks like a walking compost heap It's even funnier when other hen Lillian takes them off and she has to start again Is this some bizzare ritual my hens have started or normal chicken behaviour Help please

Eggstatic!
One of mine always does it too. I was worried at first that she may have been going broody but lays regularly every day with only the odd day missed.

Snowy
Mine do it too. But never seen one carry the load around with them - how funny!
mostin
It is very funny, she does it before and after she lays, I've decided after watching her more closely. She is usually a stroppy madam with a short fuse but she always seems really happy and in her own little dream world when doing this, which is probably why she doesn't notice the other hens taking the bits off her back.
