ScottishMike
another daft question maybe in my search for info before I take the plunge! How do hens respond to fireworks? We have two dogs who are petrified of them! We have to sedate them to try and help them through it If we do get hens, they will be strictly outdoor animals, so they will be able to hear the full might of the fireworks that seem to start around mid October and go on until late November around here!!! Do hens tend to get flustered by fireworks? Would that stop them laying? Can they get so scared they do damage to themselves or other hens? Or do most hens simply ignore it and simply not get bothered by it??
lisa33
My girls did not seem too bothered by them. On 5th November the local cricket / hockey club have a huge display and we are on a couple of hundred metres away. I thought we may have a couple of days with no eggs but they were fine. As long as they are shut up in their Eglu / Coop then they should be ok.
Egluntyne
My hens have never batted so much as an eyelid, and fireworks are always going off around here.
Ain't Nobody Here
We had a similar thread going this time last year . General concensus seems to be that hens don't notice . There's a possibility of a blip in laying if they get a big fright but I've not had any problems. My dog hates them too .
hillfamily
My girls never seem to be bothered by fireworks - there are always loads going off around us every year and for what seems like weeks By November, my girls have normally taken themselves off to bed and are tucked up and fast asleep by 5 - 5.30 ish so, well before the fireworks start My cats on the other hand are normally hiding under a bed or in a wardrobe
