Boybeck
I got my first chickens this afternoon and have introduced them to their new eglu home. Very exciting moment I've just been to check on them tonight and they all seem to be sleeping outside instead of going inside the house. Shall I leave them? lisa33
You can try shining a torch in through the egg hatch. They may go in then, but they may be too sleepy. I have been known to crawl up the eglu run to put them to bed when I accidently locked them out one night.
chelsea
if all else fails try the broom method : get a long broom and try and coax them in gently with the broom behind them.
Tigerlily
Hello Boybeck It's probably best to lift them gently into the house I had to do this a few times when I first got my girls and crawl through the eglu run too! They'll get the hang of it after a few days... If you left them, you would be leaving them at the mercy of Monsieur Reynard le fox or other predators, better to keep them safe Bw x
mrs chook
Our two young lasses roost on the eglu run so we pick them up and just plonk them into the run so they then go into their eglu Bless!
Boybeck
Thanks for all your advice. Just been and looked again. Two are outside huddled together and one is in the house. I'll leave them tonight, we have a walled garden so they will be safe. will try encouraging them into the house tomorrow night
MedusA
Our two young lasses roost on the eglu run so we pick them up and just plonk them into the run so they then go into their eglu Bless! My Araucanas did the same. It took many nights of putting them to bed before they got the message. They are not the sharpest crayons in the box, bless them. I have been known to use both the torch and broomhandle methods before with varying degrees of success. They will get the message eventually, especially as the nights get colder. Good luck! peisiong
Sorry to hear that. I completely know how you feel. My girls arrived nearly 2 weeks ago and on the first night, I was worried that they won't know how to go into eglu to sleep. But they did as soon as it gets dark and without failed every evening (touch wood) since. However, they both like to sleep in the nesting "bowl" and not roost on the roosting bars which I thought is quite sweet. Though they always squabble before settling in to the nest. Good luck!
