Can you keep Ducks and Hens together???

Recommended Posts

When I first got my 2 ducks (as tiny babies), the 5 chooks didn't stop squarking VERY loudly for 4 hours straight, all 5 of them. It was awful!

But the next day they were much better - it took them about 3-4 days to get over all the excitement properly, but they are fine now - they still get a bit funny if the ducks get too excited, but otherwise are fine.

They also get a bit annoyed with eachother if there is food on the dividing fence, but nothing very nasty ever happens.

I was told by the lady I bought the ducks from that they shouldn't really be kept together in the same run, as the chickens can pick up nasties from all the mud the ducks create - not sure how true that is.

My ducks free range in the garden, whilst the chooks are kept in a fenced off piece of garden, so they don't mix that much.

Hope that helps!

Im thinking of getting two khaki campbell ducks (duck) iv already got four hens GNR two of which peck big time, should I just keep the ducks out in the garden and the hens in there coop and alternate them or will they be ok together day and night
