quickcluck
Hi guys.... I've been making mash for the girls as it has been abit chilly.... I think I've read on here that some of you add porridge oats, is that right??? If so do you just stir them in with the mash?? Thanks K
laurmurf
I tried this yesterday and it went down a storm! I made a mush of layers pellets and added the leftover oatmeal from breakfast - added lots of warm water to make it quite mushy and fed it to the girls who devoured it instantly! It was more popular with oats in then the layers pellets mush has been on its own.
dancing cloud
Ooh! Thanks for this I'd not thought about adding porridge oats as well - a whole new recipe. I'll give it a go with my spoiled little princesses. Many thanks
Mutrix Farmers
I sometimes add a sprinkle of oats when I'm making their pellet porridge. Something else my girls love is soup mix (pearl barley, lentils, split peas etc) from the Health Food Shop boiled up in water with a handful of oats mixed in. Simmer gently for about 20 mins (add more water if necessary) until it's all soft. I then let it go cold in a dish before I let them have it. Bit of bokashi bran on the top - lurvely (if you're a chicken that is, OH didn't fancy it for tea!!) Don't think I would feed them dry oats as it might swell in their crops. dancing cloud
Soup mix? And I thought my little monsters were thoroughly spoiled princesses! Might just give it a try though Forget Nigella beng a domestic goddess, what we really need is a cookbook for hens. Anyone want to try collating all the info on here? I'm sure it would do a roaring trade through the Omlet shop. Chicken recipes - for chickens
