Guest
My veg delivery man must have an abundance of broad beans, as I have loads of them. Any ideas gratefully received?
The Dogmother
You can do a lovely pasta sauce with broad beans, bacon and parmesan
Guest
Hi Debs. My veg box had oodles of broad beans last week too! I thought I must have at least a double helping! I have had some raw in salads and I roasted some with other vegetables on Saturday, but the rest of my family don't really like them so I have to be careful. I am doing an egg and bacon pie today and will probably do some to go with that. Thank you - that's given me an idea! There are so many that I will have to sit down somewhere nice and cool to pop them all. That will be refreshing, relaxing and purposeful at the same time. Eyren
Bluerghhh - put them on the compost heap My OH loves them - I don't mind them but they can be bitter, IMHO, and anyway they are high GI so I really shouldn't be having any until I've shifted a few pounds Our last few baby ones from the garden went into a risotto with some fresh peas and sliced baby courgettes (also home-grown)
The Dogmother
I like them in small quantities.
Mel (& Paul)
I have always found them tough and bitter (like my mother-in-law - boom boom)
Eyren
I have always found them tough and bitter (like my mother-in-law - boom boom) The ones you buy in the supermarket are often like that - the fresh ones seem to be left on the plant until big and tough I pick ours when they are only just swelling the pod and not much bigger than peas, then cook them that day, and they are nice and tender and not too bitter. Not sure why the frozen baby ones are tough, though...
kannie
They make a lovely salad, cooked and served with crumbled feta, a bit of mint, and a good dressing. Or there's a classic salad with broadbeans, anchovies, hard boiled eggs and things - is it a nicoise?
