troyster
We have had our 3 girls for a week, I think they are about 16 or 17 weeks old, we bought them as POL and didnt think to ask how old they were. The question I have is that I have been feeding them layers mash is that ok or should I be feeding them with Growers mash? so any advice would be helpful thanks Rob & Troy - wilomena - Susan - unnamed - cant think of a bossy type name
CrazyDaizy
Hia Troyster Welcome to the wonderful world of chooks We have always fed ours ordinary layers pellets. I wasnt aware they needed anything different when they were a bit younger I will be interested to see what everyone else says.
Egluntyne
Strictly speaking they should be on growers till 18 weeks, but sometimes it is difficult to get their exact age. The layers pellets/mash contain s too much calcium for young hens and can lead to bone abnormalities. Advice varies though. Some say don't put them on layers till they are actually laying. I put mine on them at around 18 weeks. If I have half a sack of growers left, I mix it in over a few days. If have run out of growers at 17weeks, I don't bother to get a new sack.
