astonsmarty
Hi , I just wanted to know if someone can help me , today my lovely four month old duck died her name was Daisy, she was a most enchanting girl but yesterday she stood all alone from the other three ducks we have at the side of a small pond we made and she looked 'puffed up'.... feathers fluffed and she looked as thouigh she was straining to go to the toilet her body was straining when we tried to pick her up she waddled off withe rest seemingly ok . Today she got up ok went out into the garden as usual, we kept eye on her whilst we were building her new Eglu and later on I picked her up and she snuggled into my neck and we lay on the couch for around half an hour joined by my cat on my lap.... she then put out one of her wings and my husband took her and placed her on the floor where she proceeded as usual to make her way into the garden , but as she went down the small step her legs gave way and she could no longer stand my husband cradled her and i then thought to take her to my close neighbour who has kept chickens for a long time thinking she would know more than we do . She told me to summon the help of the lady that had bred her so I rushed back for my phone and on my return ... my darling Daisy had died she lay limp in my husbands arms...... I couldnt take her to my vet on Monday as we felt that she deserved to be laid to redt in our garden that had become her home and where she loved. No other symptons could I tell you apart from her toilet was watery and looked as though it had green curd like bits through it If anyone can help me i would be so grateful I feel so sad and feel Daisy's life will go in vane if I dont learn by this thankyou
Joojoo
I'm so sorry to hear your sad news I don't know anything about keeping ducks but hopefully someone will be along soon to put your mind at rest. Perhaps it was something congenital .
Lesley
Sorry to hear about Daisy - how sad I really don't know what it might have been - you could try asking on the Practical Poultry forum as they have a lot more duck keepers on there.
