We are currently looking after my in-laws tortoise, with a view to keeping it. but does anybody know of any potential disease risk on both sides, with having both. I obviously don't intend to keep them together, but I'm thinking of when they share the garden etc.

my tortoise goes out in the garden with the girls on nice days (ie not very often). I have had no problems but to be honest, I didn't think to check this out

I have 2 horsefield tortoises, and I asked the same question on a tortoise forum prior to getting the girls. The answers I got back was that there wasn't any transferable diseases. However I have always felt wary as I think torts can carry salmonella in their poos and knowing that chickens are likely to eat anything I have chosen to keep them separate. The tortoises have their own enclosure fenced off from where the girls free range.

i was worried that the chooks would peck him but they all get on famously

of course he is only out for 6 months of the year

Ditto my little tort is only 5" big but girls are fine with him!
