hi all

 

im a newbie here and will hopefully be picking up my eglu off a fellow member some time this week!

 

very excited!

 

we want to get 2/3 chickens but not sure which breed to go for or where to get them from.

ive googled it but not found much?

 

we want them to be quite docile and friendly as my 2 year old daughter will want to be involved im sure! lol

 

any recomendations would be greatly appreciated- also if any1 local has any they want to rehome that would be suitable get in touch!

I am not sure where you are in the Midlands but I got mine from Cotswold Chickens in Banbury which is not far from the M40 (I guess it would be about an hour or so from Birmingham) they were really helpful and also sell everything you need - they may be a little too far from you though.

Have a look at these websites and see what you think. I've just recently bought 2 Sweeties (Ambers) from Merrydale poultry and they're really docile and rather cheeky!

I got my Amber Star from Oak Meadow Farm in Romsley. I would definatly go back there when I get some more chickens. The chickens had lots of space and there were loads of each breed to choose from - they let me stoll about in the chicken enclosure to decide which one I wanted without feeling rushed. The breeds they stock are good egg laying friendly hybreds.

 

If you do go there, ask for directions first, as it is hidden away up a track and difficult to find from the road.
