No eggs

Recommended Posts

I have 9 hens and they are free range, kept in a straw lined shed with 2 nest boxes and 3 roosts. I have not had an egg for 15 weeks, im sure they are going through the moult. I think they are about 12 months old now(as i was told when i bought them that they where POL). I was just wondering how long it will be before they will lay again?

Welcome to the forum, Slippy :) . I agree with Mostin, that does seem a long time with no eggs :? .

For worming, you are best to use Flubenvet. Have you had a look in their poos for signs of worms? ( :vom::wink: ). If you want to know more about Flubenvet, try a search on the forum. There are loads of threads about it.

If you check under their wings and round their vents, you will easily spot signs of lice. There will be clusters of hard white stuff (eggs) round the bases of their feathers. That's easily treated with Johnson's Anti Mite Spray (Pets At Home sell it).

What are you feeding them on?

Good quality layers pellets and minimal treats will help.

Have you checked around outside to make sure no-one is laying in a secret nest?

A moult will slow laying down, but 15 weeks is a very long time.

I would definitely give them a course of Flubenvet at this stage.
