Amanda
hello friendly helpers. Is there anything that I should be doing extra for my 7 hens during the cold weather. It is freezing today and I am worried if they will be OK ? Also, they are 5 months old now and none of them has aid a single egg ! They are clean, well fed, have nesting boxes, roosts etc.The house is well insulated and still nothing. I use shavings in the house. We have recently discovered one of them is a cockerel ! They seem very perky, good feathers, no sins of redmite, or scaly leg etc. I was wondering about wormng them ? Any thoughts would be great. Warm regards Amanda
..lay a little egg for me
5 months is only 20-odd weeks & most pullets aren't expected to lay until around that age. They do say that chicks hatched later in the tear might not start laying until spring...hopefully yours won't fall into that category! Worming sounds a good idea to me anyway. mostin
I agree with the above, the darker days seem to be causing alot of POL hens to begin laying alot later than predicted and some may cross their legs til the spring. I know as I have one of them
ruth1
I agree about the time of year , out of 7 only 1 was laying regularly and I have given up worrying and am looking forward to a glut of eggs next year, I dosed them with Flubenvet a few weeks ago though and 2 others have started now and are laying an egg every other day. So maybe giving up worrying about it helps
