can you get different types of hens and a rooster? e.g. say if a got a hen silkie and hen rhode island red and a hen orpington could i get a rhode island red rooster

well what i am doing is makeing my shed into a chicken hut so i could put a wire fence to seperate the hens and the rooster

You could.........but am just wondering why you would want to have have a rooster if he can't be part of the flock?

 

Why not get hens that are pretty much the same size and let them all mingle?

Hi, welcome to the forum.

 

Do you want lots of chicks? If not, you should just get hens as they will lay eggs without a rooster being present. They'll just be unfertilised eggs.

Only if the hens sit on the eggs and hatch them.

 

It sounds to me as if you don't really need a rooster. Most of us don't have one.
