rachel19
Did you ask for it to be giftwrapped then? If you didn't ask for it to be giftwrapped then i probably wouldn't expect them to realise that it was a christmas present for your children with the millions of order they get. A lot of people would have pre-ordered the guitar hero pack recently as it just came out and perhaps they thought all that packaging for such a big box was a bit unnecessary if you didn't make any special requests saying it was a present.............sorry i know this goes against everything everyone else has said but unless you specified that it was a present i dont really see how they could have known and how it was their fault. Yes everything comes in packaging but it would be harder for the huge GH box to be wrapped in all that cardboard and stuff. Your children will have a fantastic christmas anyway - don't let this one mishap ruin it for you all Also just noticed that on the page for the GH pack it says that it ships in the original packaging and if its a gift then check that box when you pay - perhaps they've added this recently so other people know? ..lay a little egg for me
Also just noticed that on the page for the GH pack it says that it ships in the original packaging and if its a gift then check that box when you pay - perhaps they've added this recently so other people know? I bet they have! Even though there is a gift wrap option, I still think that parcels should be properly packaged to protect from damage, so I think it may still be worth complaining a second time. What a shame! I have had some close calls in the past with ordering presents for people. Mostly, I've been able to intercept the package, but last Christmas, I ordered some books for DS's stocking and Amazon delivered on Sat morning, all properly packaged as usual, but DS decided to be 'helpful' and open 'my' package for me ...he was delighted, needless to say, and Santa had to go shopping a second time! Willow
I order quite a bit from Amazon but I have found when there is a problem like something doesn't work they're ok they have a process but if it's a bit more complex they are beyond useless. I now only order books from them as I won't take the risk for anything larger.
Seagazer
I am so sorry for you, its awful when the children see things they shouldn;t before Christmas. I have to say I am not surprised by Amazon's response. I stopped using them a couple of months ago. I received a card through the door saying I had a parcel to pick up. I went there and I was told I needed to pay £3.37 postage for the parcel. I did this. It turned out to be 3 books I had ordered from Amazon. I contacted them by email explaining what had happened and could I have the money refunded as I had obviously paid twice for postage. The email they sent back went along the lines of our packaging and posting department always make sure that enough postage is put onto the parcels. If I wanted to continue with the claim I would have to fax (I don't have a fax) or send a letter and receipt (which I didn't get) to the company in Dublin. They would not accept a scan of the package sent by email. I finally got around to sending it and they phoned the other day. He just said we've looked at this and you shouldn't have had to pay - sorry. Refunded my account. I said to him that it was too late and that I would never use their company again. We were such good customers, virtually every month we would order books, dvds or cds. I mentioned that the email had come over to me that they didn't believe me and that Amazon could never, ever be in the wrong. He did have the good grace to send another email apologising for the first email. And I realise it was only £3.37 but its the principle of the thing - I'm not that tight really Now all I need is another company like Amazon that I can spend my money in. chili pepper
Ive used the lines 'It's for next door/ for someone at work who didn't want her children to see it' etc. but you do have to think quickly and on your feet! A couple of years ago I was waiting for hubby's present to be delivered, I wasn't worried about when it arrived as he is out at work everyday Mon-Fri and I would be there on a Saturday to receive it. Unbelievably, Parcel Force delivered on a SUNDAY morning, when I wasn't there and the parcel clearly showed what was inside

It certainly didn't say that when i ordered it! It sounds like I'm not the only complainer! I can see your point rachel19 - I suppose i assumed that it would be packaged based on my previous years of (over) packaging from Amazon. We ordered a microwave from them this summer and even that came as a box within a box with 'neutral' amazon packaging outside - so it mustn't be just the big items. Besides, they charge a fortune for the gift wrapping! I've learned from my mistake - not to make assumptions - but I do think a more personal email recognising my disappointment would have been nice. yes, on reflection, Christmas won't be 'ruined' - my children are lucky they get such generous presents - but I still like to make a fuss over the surprise and secrecy! Even my 17 year old about-to-go-to-university daughter loves being surprised with her stocking on Christmas morning! (i still wait 'til they're sound asleep before I sneak in... I mean I deliver them on behalf of Father Christmas )
Emma Tarpey
That's awful and their response was despicable!! You order the smallest thing from them and it comes packaged in extra boxes and wrapped in paper so you'd think something like that would have much more care taken with it. So close to christmas you'd think that they'd take extra precautions to make sure that everything is properly wrapped up so you can't tell what anything is - they should KNOW that most things ordered at this time of year would be for presents and with most of them they will be for someone in the same house!! £3 is as you say a slap in the face and as for the patronising horrid email that they sent ARGH!!! Couldn't agree more you should also take it to the newspaper this could prevent others having the same problem Hope this gets solved soon... as for the e-mail ARRRRRRR
