Poor Korma is crawling!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't use that poison on my dogs,(spot on treatments) unless I really HAD to, it is pretty lethal though effective on dogs & cats. I just have trouble with putting chemicals inside any animal unnecessarily. If you read the precautions for us the aadministratoer of these treatments, you might worry about using them.

I posted the other day about an avian specialist vet in Hampshire saying that as they work by being absorbed in the subcutaneause fat layer that chooks don't have, makes it useless on them.

I know poeple use them, but I wonder on the facts of the theory????

Pymytherium has been used for years sucessfully & is naturall.

Wow  , srong opinions I guess. Well my girls haven't keeled over from using xeno 200 yet and my cats are still happily breathing in and out after being treated with frontline, so I guess we'll agree to differ.

hi Mostin, yes sorry strong opinions hence the 2nd post, it is something I feel quite passionate about, all my pets (& us too) our health & the toxins we expose ourselves too.

Not the place to air, but on the Xeno point I was actually and did before ask for opinions on what the Avian specialist said about the fatty layer...

If I had a bad infestation and nothing "natural" or organic worked I would use it. (IF) it was to fix it which this vet suggests it won't.

Has anyone looked at the new Human lice treatment they are advertising. If it kills people lice might it fix chook lice?

It's like antibiotics, am against routinely using.... but I am maybe not the 1st to the vet with a sick chook, but certainly close behind. :) oh & the wormer. if the vermex & diatom is working great if not kill e'm wirth chemical!

Hi, feel like I've opened a 'can of worms' if you'll pardon the pun :) I do understand the point of view of not injesting any unnecessary chemicals both for both my family and pets, growing my own vegetables and buying organically where ever I can. Before even considering any of the remedies suggested I had been using some 'organic' louse powder which unfortunately did not seem to work, so I was reacting to a situation and not just 'routinely' administering medicines/chemicals. I suppose I was wanting a quick and sure result for the problem, as the thought of my poor girl(s) having to cope with being covered in lice was upsetting (I still fee like I'm crawling!!!! :( ) I suppose the extreme natural way would be to leave them with the lice as do not all wild birds have parasites?

Have wondered about those new human head lice treatments but think a lot of them are 'comb through' types of treatment - not so easy with feathers!!!

What should I watch for while taking Ivermectin?

Visit your prescriber or health care professional to check that your infection has gone. Your prescriber may request that you have stool samples or other tests checked for the infection. If you have a severe infection, you may need a repeat course of treatment.

You may get dizzy. Until you know how ivermectin affects you, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness.

Practice good hygeine to prevent infection of others. Wash your hands, scrub your fingernails and shower often. Every day change and launder linens and undergarments. Scrub toilets often and keep floors clean.

Other people in your house may need treatment. Check with your prescriber or health care professional.

What side effects may I notice from receiving Ivermectin?

Don't worry Jill, sometimes drastic action has to be taken, I am forrtunate to have NOT yet had this problem :!: It is I suppose easy to preach from a priviledges position.

And at least you tried other methods 1st.

What concerns me is that One shouldn't use it if breastfeeding, so presumably it is passed through milk, also then eggs? :(

Also the recomendations for pets is to use rubber gloves while applying, do not stroke or sleep in the same room for 24 hours & don't let children handle the pets.

Sound kind of nasty? :(

It would seem that it is only lethal to "some" lice but it would apprear thatr if peole are using it successfully that it clearly kills chicken lice. and presumably avoiding the need to worm in the same hit, so I suppose it is one hit not 2.

For anyone that is intersted the possible side effects are listed below & we should a be aware that it is not licenced for use in Poultry :!:

Ivermectin is usually well tolerated and serious side effects are rare.

Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:

• difficulty breathing

• eye or eyelid pain, irritation, redness or swelling

• loss or change of vision

• redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth

• skin rash, hives or increased itching

• yellowing of eyes or skin

• unusual weakness or tiredness

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

• dizziness or lightheadedness

• joint or muscle pain

• tender glands in the neck, armpits, or groin

• headache

• diarrhea

• loss of appetite

• nausea, vomiting

• tremors

• swelling of the face, hands, arms, feet, or legs

Interesting. thread. I have used Xeno 200 on my hens for a couple of years now, and they don't seem to be ant the worse for it.

Ideally we would all prefer to go the natural route, but when they don't work, it is expensive and disappointing.

I reckon the parasites do the hens more harm than the medication, which if used carefully does the trick nicely.

Ivermectin is routinely used in the third world to rid people of internal parasites, so it won't do us much harm.
