can eggs freeze?

Recommended Posts

A bit of a daft question but.... the other really cold and very frosty morning, when I went to collect my one and only egg :( from Korma (bless her) I noticed that it was really quite cold, almost icey!!. Just got me wondering that if you collected an egg that had been frozen was it then ok to leave it at room temperature until we ate it? or should it be maybe kept in the fridge? (OH thinks I think about things too much? :) ? :) )

The egg wasn't actually frozen when you collected it was it????? I've never collected any frozen eggs, cold ones yes, but not frozen.

But eggs themselves can be frozen but not in their shells. Use within 6 months.

Egg whites freeze ok but for white+yolks they say add sugar or salt before freezing so they don't have a glutinous texture when thawed. I've never tried it myself but this website makes interesting reading:
