Another fine mesh lol

Recommended Posts

Hi, my husband is about to source the wire to build the run, it will be 4.5 mtr by 5 mtr in size. It will have a perspex corrugated roof and the house will be inside this area. He would like to know if the wire he has found would be sufficeint for the job. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Welded-wire-mesh-1-x1-x-48-Aviary-Hutch-Fencing-30m_W0QQitemZ360109862687QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Home_Garden_Garden_Structures_Fencing_CV?hash=item360109862687&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1296%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

If its not could you kind people advise him what would be best, also where best to purchase it from.

thank you

Look at Hills of Devon http://www.hillsofdevon.co.uk/- people on here say they are good, free delivery too. I'm hopefully getting a new walk in run from my dad after xmas and got in a muddle over which wire thickness is best to use. I've heard on here that 16gauge wire is best for stumping Mr Fox. Omlet runs are made of a coated version of it too. 16gauge wire is 1.6mm, according to http://www.meshdirect.co.uk/Wire-Mesh-2%20...%20-c-23.html which says it is ideal for fox protection...

Thats setled then, it will be 1"-1" we don't want the chooks loosing their heads  He is ordering the 48" by 30 mtr roll. He has said Wickes do the corrugated perspex sheets, so all he has to do get the matirials then start building :D mind you there is a big silver birch tree right in the middle of the proposed run area that he is going to have to negotiate the roof around :D he is very clever though :)

cheers

We used 16 gauge wire too and got our Persex roofing sheets from Wickes too. They are a bit fiddly to cut but are really good and let lots of light in.

Here is our run before we completed it - we now have a cube on the outside (another picture below of how we put a slot into the wire so the cube roof can slide through to make cleaning etc easier. I will have to take some better shots as it has changed quite a bit. Next stage is to make a mezzanine in one corner, that is our Christmas holiday project!

Here is the prototype slot shortly to be replaces with something a bit more robust.
