Corton Blue - NO EGGS???

Recommended Posts

I bought a Corton Blue back at the end of September, she was very young although I don't know how young.

To date she has not produced any eggs. My question is do Corton Blues always lay blue eggs or can they sometimes be brown? I do hope not! Her wattles are not massive but certainly bigger than her comb and she is not squatting at all when you go near her, she is nowhere near as interested in food as the others and is definately at the bottom of the pecking order.

Any advice greatly appreciated, we are so desperate for a blue egg, the wait is killing us!

Many thanks

Nicola

Hi Nicola - do you know roughly how old she is? I have no experience of Corton Blues so can't answer that one but as it is winter now she may not lay until the days start to lengthen. I have 4 younger girls and although they have varying sizes of combs and wattles none are squatting or laying yet.

I found this picture and post from a Corton Blue owner who you could PM too from this post.

This is Tufty a Corton Blue from Glencroft Poultry in Yorkshire. She should lay blue eggs.

At 2.40pm this afternoon tufty laid her first egg, it was green with pink splodges and speckles  Picture posted in the Egg forum.

You could also contact the breeder who you bought her from to find out what age they usually lay if you don't find out much through your post here.

Hi.. I don't know anything about your corton blue, but I have a skyline who lays green eggs.. so I know the wait must be killing you.. I would imagine if they don't lay a blue it would more likely be green or white. So your prob right and she hasn't started laying yet.

I have a silver nik that we bought at the begining of Sept and still no eggs... Think we've got a long wait ahead...!!! She has a tiny comb, getting redder but very small. I'me desperately short of eggs.. as the only one laying is the skyline!

Good luck hope, stay patient! hard though that is.

That's reassuring eggypeggy, thankyou. At least if it's a different colour to brown that will be something. The day we open the box and find one I think our whole road might know that the blue/green/white egg has arrived!
