beach chick
Meringue has been mostly off laying for a few weeks. then we had one good one, next day a softie and then nothing for a couple of days. today, she has laid what I think is a normal egg INSIDE a softie skin!! I managed to peel the biggest bit of outer 'shell' off, leaving a pale patch behind which seems normal (tho not her normal deep brown colour). the rest of the 'skin' is very rough and wrinkled - most odd. the day before yesterday we had gales, and one of the old eglu runs with plastic cover but minus the eglu itself blew over - they all seemed quite stressed so I wonder if this might have caused it? she's fine in herself, so I'm not worried, just a little amazed at what you see from chicken-keeping! Ain't Nobody Here
How strange . Never heard of that before . Could well have been the fright that did it!
Hannah and peeps
One of my chickens had a phase of laying eggs that had no shell but were in a like a bag of egg skin, she would even lay a couple connected together like sausages. I started saving my other chickens good egg shells and baking them and crushing them up (so that they look nothing like eggs) and putting them in the food. Now she never lays any funny eggs and her eggs have good strong shells.
