stoice
Is this normal? My ex-batt Babs has finally reached the henopause I think, as since she did a full moult in September/October she has only laid one odd shaped egg and one or two softies with no shell at all. It's been lovely finally seeing her with her fluffy knickers at last since she was rescued (It didn't seem possible to loose even more feathers than the stumpy things she had arrived with but she got through it in the end) Now this week - feathers everywhere, she looks moth eaten again. Is it normal to moult so close to last time? Couldn't see any mites on her and she's perky enough from what i gather when i check on them in the dark morning and evening. Difficult to say when I can only check all my girls when they're sleepy though. I'm hoping this is just a mini one compared to last time. What a time of year to do it too. Snowy
I don't know, but one of mine has done it too! She is a pure breed though, at the end of her second years laying. She had a moult (mainly her tail) in August/September and stopped laying, then came back into lay, now she has stopped again and is moulting all her hackle feathers! She is still quite happy and healthy otherwise, so I just assume it is normal.
moomin
There doesn't seem to be any set pattern. My girl is 11 months and they are not supposed to moult within their first year. But she started moulting 3 weeks ago!! And now she's ill. So all I can advise is keep and eye on her and make sure she's eating and perky and give her some extra protein
sandyhas3chucks
All this may be due to our weather see the news today about our wildlife suffering with the erratic weather this year. maybe that's why? anyone else got thoughts
