MedusA
Treacle has been having a major moult since September and is only just now fully feathered again. At one time she had a huge bald patch on her back and hadn't laid for 3 months (21st September). I really missed her "chestnut brown" eggs in the nestbox. The Saturday before Christmas she surprised us all with an egg and has laid nearly every day since, so it looks like she's back to full production. Well done Treacle! Still nothing at all from the freeloading Araucanas. We have had them nearly six months and not a sign of laying (although their faces are red now, so I am remaining optimistic). chocchick
Well done, we have 2 chickeny freeloaders too A Gingernut that never really started laying after a moult last year and a neurotic Welsummer that won't produce full sized brown eggs and either produces the World's tiniest eggs (in brown ) or very rare beige eggs The fat noisy egg laying one is having a moult and bald and eggless. Congratulations- you must be so proud, and the pressure is on for your Aracaunas
fowlbird
two of ours have been freeloading since the summer (young birds just over a year old) and now the other two have gone in to full moult - 4 bald chickens is very depressing. I hope they start laying again soon. I'm not a great egg eater but I feel more secure with a dozen or so in the fridge and I don't mean bought ones
