which name does your picture go under? how easy was it to make? finally, the area around me is heavily fox populated. How fox proof is your run and would it be a good idea to keep the eglu run attached to the eglu inside the walk in run. so they can stay in the eglu run when we are out but when we're there thay can have a run around in the walk in run and we can give them a bit of handling.

my run is listed as loopyloo :)

well I have my eglu inside the run, others do like you've said but I have no experience of this so I will leave them to answer that one.

All of my run is covered with a high gauge welded mesh and it's surrounded by railway sleepers to prevent any digging under the wire. This should prevent anything getting into the run. I also check it every day for any signs of 'attempted burglary' :)

oooh thats my husbands department Madman I am so sorry I woudn't know how to describe it to you... errrm I will have a go :anxious: .

I do know it's made up of rectangular 'panels' and then then they are screwed together and then he' screwed them to the sleepers from the inside so it's no going to go anywhere.

He made the panels first individually, and put the wire on each one, then lined them up and screwed together with the wire on the inside for security.

The roof it metal corrugated sheets as that is what he had available :)

I hope this helps, I am not much of a builder myself

mine is very similar to xscrunchee on that page

I built it myself at a cost of ~£120 including 30m of weldmesh (which I used 20m and sold the other 10m) and 3 corogated clear plastic roofing sheets

when you consider the fact the Eglu without a run is £100 to £120 cheaper it's worth the effort building your own walk in run.

I don't think xscrunchee paid that much for hers and the guy builds them to your measurements based on his standard panel sizes.

good luck

I think very few people will have such a grand thing as a set of plans, most runs are as Loopyloo says - panels with mesh on screwed together.

I am bulding a walk in run soon and have purchased the following:

uprights and corner posts- 5cmx5cm treated wood

Wood for panels 5cm x 2cm wooden battens (treated)

Wood for around the bottom 10cm x 2cm (to hold the run bedding in)

There will be two doors - one for getting in to the run and one smaller one for getting at the Eglu so 6 x hinges, 2 x hasp and staples, 2 x handles, 6 x thumb turns (the cost of this add up!)

30m 19g weldmesh 1m wide and holes 1inch x 1inch

32 slabs

roof to be purchased!

Staples to hold the mesh on to the wood and screws for assembly of frame

Total cost was about £160

this should build me a 2m x 3m run but I will go larger if I have enough wood!

Things to remember:

Use weldmesh not chickenwire 16g is best

Using slabs for a base makes it easier to clean and helps keep predators and rodents out

A proper roof is useful to keep things dry

From reading your other thread it looks like you are still in the process of persuading your parents to get you the Eglu - it might be worth trying the run that comes with it first and letting your parents get used to the chickens before you go assembling a wacking great run in the garden :D

thanks for that thats a great idea that i hadn't thought of yet. just 1 question: we have foxes come into our garden very often. they hardly ever come to the pavement. do you recommend i put it on the pavement with some bedding or put it on the grass.
