knitting crazy
Alphabetispaghetti 'Betty' Western Edith Weston Colly Weston Hi, we are new to chicken keeping. Our lovely young hens moved in, in september and just before Christmas 2 of them started laying. They are only bantams so the eggs are really small. We have had difficulty in finding egg cups that are small enough for the eggs. Has anyone else had this problem and how have you solved it. We had seen some double ended egg cups on ebay an thought that may be the answer but they seem to be for duck and hen eggs not hen and bantams. My only answer was to make an inner lining for the egg cups out of a quilted material but this would need washing most times we had eggs. Any ideas? Scramble
Welcome to the forum I'm not sure about bantam egg cups I would probably believe that you'd have to add a lining, could you just fill the egg cup with kitchen roll to lift the egg up and then discard the kitchen roll when all the egg is gone? I'm sure there's some better advice out there though Good Luck
Scottie
Found a web site with bantam egg cups: http://www.kitchen-garden-hens.co.uk/catalogue.htm Not sure if this helps! Sheila
knitting crazy
Betty (partridge wyandotte) Edith (Black and silver wyandotte) Colly (Buff and white wyandotte) Not yet laying Thanks for the quick replys. This is the first time I have asked a question and am amazed by the quick response. The egg cups look like just what I want. The eggs are great boiled as there is not alot of white and lots of yolk but it has been a little difficult eating them. This forum is a great source of information and it has answer many questions over the last few months Thanks to everyone who contributes information. Thanks agian Sheila From the Westons + Western
