Lesley
Can anyone recommend a DVD which gives a general, historical, overview of WW2? I don't want a boxed set costing ££££££££, just a one or two disc set. Also, it must be a British version, not American or Americanised, documentary type. I've had a quick look on Amazon but the DVDs they have are short on reviews, so I thought I'd ask on here .
Phonix
sorry i can't help but 2 films I would recommend that show the immediate effects of the era are Judgment at Nuremberg - which shows the justices trial after the trails of the main war criminals and Sophie Scholl which is the story of the last few days of the life of Sophie Scholl, a student who was a member of a student group (the White Rose group) who made leaflets denouncing National Socialist ideals! I watched both this year in my Law in Literature and Film module and chose to answer the coursework question based on them - I enjoyed the Sophie Scholl one more probably because its shorter and focuses on students! x
abwsco
Lesely, what age is it for? I can ask DH what he recommends if you like. He's currently watching one of his many DVD's on the subject again.
Lesley
Thanks Stacey, but I'm looking for more of an overview - I'll keep those details for future reference though Anne, I want to get them for my son who is in his thirties! History lessons seem to have been a bit lacking when he was at school and he has asked for DVDs to fill in gaps - and he prefers to watch DVD's rather than read about it I've found a well reviewed one on WW1 and need a WW2 one to go with it. Carl is mostly into Civil War and all his info. is in books.
hillfamily
I know it's not WW2 ........ but I throughly enjoyed the Battlefield Britain series by Peter and Dan Snow - was on the BBC a few years ago and I managed recently to get the series on DVD Covers famous Battles from Boudicca's revolt to the Battle of Britain in 1940
abwsco
Lesley, DH says he can only think of The World at War series. I know that's cheap at Amazon at the moment.
