catherinej Posted January 19, 2009 Share Posted January 19, 2009 Penny was attacked by a fox 3 weeks ago and suffered quite a bad wound on her back. The vet gave her an antibiotic injection and also antibiotic syrup which she took for about 10 days (finished course last sunday). I thought she was making a full recovery as she seems well in herself and is growing back feathers quite quickly. However, over the last couple of days I have noticed that she seems to be loosing more feathers - could she be moulting aswell? Also, when i inspected her wound this morning, I noticed that the skin just below the wound is yellow, as if the wound may be weeping, but new feathers are still growing there. The wound itself looks dry and scabby but woundered if the skin around could have become infected? I don't know whether to bring her in and give her a bit of a clean but this may be difficult on my own - she has never liked being handled. Any help or suggestions? Egluntyne Posted January 19, 2009 Share Posted January 19, 2009 I would try to inspect it and bathe it if you can. Maybe a tiny bit of gentle pressure will let the pus out. Can you fgrab her and wrap her in a towel? Or examine her in at night when she is drowsy and less likely to object. If you don't feel up to doing that, a trip to the vet might be a good idea. As Egluntine said, good bathe and insoection is in order. Salt water is good, as is warm water with a drop of tea tree oil. Purple spray (gentian violet) is also good as is vet wound powder. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bathed it with salt water anyway! She is moulting aswell - she was really flapping and there were loads of feathers coming off her. Thanks for the advice.
