mccroft
Right so busy extending the run. I'm able to extend by 7ft x4ft maybe a bit wider which will mean the overall area of the run will be 19ft x 4.5ft (5.7m x 1.35m) I'm sure this willo be big enough for 6 hens but just want to be sure. I've put in branches and the super glug is fixed to side plus space for another one, when i get it. I've also got some guttering that i was going to fix to the side to fill with layer pellets which would mean they could all feed at the same time. Got two old CD's to hang and a large log which i've put at one end. As per my other thread (chickens arriving 3 weeks early) the cube is in position so if we can't quite get it finished the run as it is has been made fox proof again. I've put a mesh skirt around the bottom of the run. and some slabs infront of where the door will be. I feel so rushed but it will come good in the end
Madbird
Sounds fantastic - can't wait to see the pictures when you get time!
mccroft
Oh great really needed someone to say it was ok. Just can't get used to the idea of the hens having to stay in the run much more than the other girls did and so wouldn't be happy abount getting 6 hens if i couldn't provide enough space. Madbird
Well I guess no run is ever big ENOUGH, compared to free ranging... but yours sounds a lot bigger than many (mine included!) and I always compare it to the lives that some hens have on battery farms.. who have no space at all. It all comes down to quality of life and we all do the best we can to provide that AND keep them safe. Your hens will certainly NOT be cramped. the eggman cometh
our run is a little smaller than that at about 17' by 4 ' and we have 8 girls. Although the free range as much as possible. they dont look cramped in there at all. So I think you should be fine.

My run will never be big enough unless it covered the whole garden. I'm sure they will love their new home it's just me being me and wanting the best possible space for them. Loopyloo that looks like a verysmart and well kept run, next to my purple cube I would really like an orange one. They look so bright and cheerful.
