4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

at present i have 2 girls that are laying, the one crouches down when you go near here, the other does not, and my cream legbar is also crouching and not laying. Is this normal?

They start crouching before they come into lay, probably means an egg is on its way but it could be another week or so. One of mine has recognised that crouching down makes it easier for me to pick her up, so she refuses to do it!

 

It all sounds like normal hen behaviour to me.

Mine stopped crouching once they realised i could catch them too, but it is definately normal chicken behaviour.

My best layer never crouches, she hates being handled and is very flighty, but she is an egg machine, she has been laying with no more than a few days off at a time for nearly 18 months.

 

The top chook in our group crouches when you go anywhere near her even when she is not laying.
