Amy83
Just been out to top up the food and one of my newly resued ex battery hens is bleeding out of the ends of the newly grown feathers around her tail. I've not noticed it before (but i dont often get to see them in day light) and my other new rescue is at the same stage of re growth and doesnt have the same problem. What can i do? Egluntyne
It sounds as if the other one has been pecking her. The newly emerging feathers have a very rich blood supply, which once a hen has developed a taste for, it becomes a hard habit to break. I would get hold of some Purple Spray ( available at equestrian suppliers/online) to disguise the wounds and help with the healing, and put a bumper bit on the pecky hen if she persists. A cabbage to peck at in the run might distract her.
