Hendy
Hi Korma went broody at about the beginning of the month and I patiently let 3 weeks slide by, now turning into 4 and she's just not budgng. She comes out very briefly each day to eat and drink. I have encouraged her to go out and even blocked her entry back into the coop a few times but she just finds a bush to hide under and stays there instead. Today I noticed her comb is going quite pale. The other 2 seem ok. Ist this normal? Thanks
Larkspurs
I wouldn't be able to answer this as I don't think I'm experienced enough..but have you seen this post by Kate? viewtopic.php?f=42&t=14370 It has loads of advice on broodiness. chelsea
their combs will go quite pale when they are broody, the also tend to look a bit "out of condition" in the feathers etc. Its because they are sitting for much longer than they normally would, and also eating less. It is a perfectly normal process as its natural for some chickens to go broody and the hen is designed to do so. Once the hen comes out of her broody spell she will eat normally and gain back her full splendour Try to discourage her as much as you can, but some broody girls can be very determined! I must say its a very unusual time of year to go broody
Egluntyne
I would try to snap her out of it tbh. She will be losing condition and there is no useful purpose being served by her being broody. Have a look at Kate's article **here** for some info tips. If you can borrow a dog crate and use it as a broody cage.....that is the best way. We are due some cold weather....that might help get her back on track.
