dacktarie
Hi I have problem that started this morning with feather pulling and skin pecking. She is the top hen, I have checked her over and the others, all seems fine with them.I have separated the top bird and the rest are fine together,no pecking another or each other. They have a large area so no space problems. Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved. Thanks Emma
chelsea
Is your pecked hen recovering from a moult? Sometimes the new feathers growing through can encourage pecking as blood attracts the others. You've done the right thing by splitting them up. You could try some purple spray (to discolour the blood/wound & it has antiseptic in it also) The only thing that worked for us was the anti pecking spray Ukadex (disgusting smell ). I wouldnt put the pecked girl back in with the pecker until her wound is healed.
Egluntyne
Odd that a top hen is suddenly being subjected to this. I wonder if she is under the weather and the others have sensed this. I'd be inclined to check her over as thay are good at disguising the fact that they are ill. If she seems OK, I would use the anti peck spray, and maybe put a bumpa bit on the naughty girl.
