alexgirl73
I've got 8 chooks, 7 GN's and one silkie cross. Now I know I'll probably only get from her once in a blue moon But why are the others showing no sign. I have 2 who are, although one is sporadic. They all went throught their moults over Christmas, and I have given them tonic, wormed them etc but they don't want to start laying again. They are still young birds, under a year old most of them, and I'm now officially flummoxed!
Egluntyne
Have they been wormed and are they having too mant treats. Why not try keeping them on layers pellets and water only for a few days and see if it makes any difference. I'd worm them too.
alexgirl73
They've been wormed I did that 2 weeks ago. Also cut down on their treats a few months back as I read on here about too many hindering laying. So all they have been getting are LP and water anyway. And because of all the rotten weather they haven't been getting out to free range too much to fill up that way. I'm honestly very confused
bigmommasally
How long have they not been laying for? My Maude went off laying for 6 weeks when she had a moult over christmas. She started laying again mid January but only about 3 eggs a week.
BeckyBoo
I think youve hit the nail on the head - the weather. The days are just starting to lengthen, out of 9 layers I'm lucky to get between 1 and 3 eggs a day. My two bantams are still on strike, my Speckledy is my ONLY regular layer, my ex-batts lay when they can be bothered and my Omlet originals seem to be JUST starting again. We're forecast a short spell of drier weather, it was light at 6.15 this morning and there were still streaks of light in the sky at 5.45pm here, I'm hoping the days will spur them into a frenzy of laying If they are otherwise healthy and have been wormed and have decent food ten it's the only thing I can think of! (I had to BUY some eggs a week or so ago ) BeckyBoo
alexgirl73
AH!!! Thanks Becky Fingers crossed for some drier, sunnier days then. Buying eggs, oh the embarassment My OH was contemplating putting a chopping block and carving knife outside their run to see if that 'encouraged' them I asked him if he would like me to leave a cheesegrater on his bedside table to see if that would encourage him to lay one
