darthwenger
let the chickens out this morning with no problem, both came rushing out and ran to the water first. Popped out to see them a couple of hours later and Henrietta was sitting on the floor all ruffled up, tried to tempt her out with some grapes and she came out of the Eglu and ate a couple and then headed back into the coop and has been sitting on the nest for the last 3 hours. She did come out and have a quick dust bath and ate a little and has now gone back to sitting on floor but does jump up when I approach (though moves a little slower than usual) I bought some special straw the other day (from Thornes) to line the coop & nesting box. Do you think she is broody & could the new straw have brought it on? (as the nesting box does now look like a proper nest) Also noticed she had done a runny poo (though she has been eatting lots of snow!) Thoughts? HENthusiastic
If she looks well in other respects Id say she sounds broody. Top tip: Never name a hen Henrietta unless you want her to go broody (my Henrietta is a very broody madame! ) edited to say: I was brought up in Hertfordshire! Watford to be exact. Egluntyne
Sounds as if she might be. If you want to snap her out of it, have a look at **this article**.
darthwenger
Thanks for the advice, reading the article, it does sound as though she was broody (loss of appitite, puffed up, sitting on the nest, pecking my hand and the other chooks as soon as they stuck their heads into the coop) Though, today she seems completely back to normal and was running around and eatting and hardly went into coop at all.........very strange. I'll have to keep my eye on her lol.
