Poor Charlotte

Recommended Posts

Everyone picks on her :( , well maybe not all of them Storm seems to like her, and Molly is not too bad, but the other three girls are just mean to her. All the time. :( They even make a point of running right accross the garden to harass her when she is quietly going about her day, as far away from them as possible. Today the cube has been delivered. This means I have two Eglu's and one cube to house 8 chickens. I have put Molly, Storm and Charlotte, plus Kylie (as she seems to be the least mean of the others) in the cube run. ZsaZsa and Amy are in the Green eglu and the two new girls are in the red eglu. I feel that this at least gives Charlotte a slim chance of not being picked on too much.

However, this is not a permanent solutiong, for one thing the Green Eglu is going next week.

Long term, I feel I have the following options. Rehome Charlotte, very reluctant to do this as she is ED's and this would break her heart (she is only 4), rehome ZsaZsa and/or Amy. ZsaZsa is the dominant one, so would need to go somewhere with chickens of strong character. Amy is a typical sneaky bully, waiting till her victim is not looking before pouncing.

Are there any other options I have not considered?

What would YOU do? I really would appreciate ALL thoughts on this please.

TIA

Maybe some time with her friends will build up her confidence a bit?

Personally, I think you might have a safer deal removing the bully rather than the victim. Try removing one of the main bullys for one day (Put them in a seperate eglu?) and see how she goes. If the progress is very noticable, maybe you should consider rehoming the lairy ones. Youd be suprised how popular they are, as they tend to be sturdier birds that are less susceptible to illness.

I would wait for someone more experienced to comment

I am a great believer in the divide and conquer method of getting them all to get on.

If you remove the bullies for a week or so, they will go back in at the bottom of the pile and the picked on girl may find some courage whilst they are out of the way.

When I had a spell of bullying, I swapped the all round every day for a week to disorientate everone, and it seemed to do the trick.

The fact that you have got two new girls might take a bit of unwanted attention away from her.

If I'd had more than 3 with 2 picking on one I reckon the chicken swap would work, also if there is 1 in particular you can "tell her off". I used a prodding stick, which helped some.Nowadays I can be heard grrr ing at them, just like head chook does! works when I am there. good luck with your swapping :D
