Watery smelly droppings

Recommended Posts

Bella has had quite watery droppings for a few days, but has been eating and drinking as usual. Today she pooed in the eglu as they were coming out so I was able to get a closer look at it as I cleaned it up. It was extremely strong smelling (like babypoo), no worms, with layer pellet coloured bits. I tried giving her some bio yogurt/oats but she wouldn't have it. the other 2 wolfed it down though. She is still laying and I think she was the hen that laid the large 98g egg at the weekend.

I've just been up to see her and have felt her crop. It feels quite hard compared to the other 2. Could it be compacted? Any suggestions please?

I'd check her crop in the morning. If it is still full then, it may be compacted. If it is empty, then there is no need to worry about that.

Article about how to deal with an impacted crop** here**

Re the squitts. Has she been wormed recently? I know you said that there were no obvious worms in her poo, but some are not visible to the naked eye.

I would limit her to pellets and water, with a little bokashi bran if you have it. No treats for a day or two, and see if that improves matters.

Thank you for your help Egluntine. I had already had looked at the thread suggested and saved it to my favourites just in case.

She was much better this morning. No squitters., much firmer poo.

I was unable to feel her crop as she wouldn't come near enough to me. The other 2 were trying to escape for breakfast and I didn't have enough hands to hold them back and touch her. I tried her with a little bioyog/oats mix this morning after her layer pellets, she doesn't like it but had little.

Where can I get the bokashi? I looked it up and most were with compost bins so wasn't sure if this was the same stuff.
